NYTCA- Subway Tunnel Structural Rehabilitation
4th Avenue Line
Project Description
This project involved the structural repairs and replacement of the existing deteriorated columns, roof girders and 18 vent structures of the subway box structure under 4th Avenue, for a distance of one mile from 39th to 60th Streets.
There are four subway tracks within the work limits – two local and two express tracks. During an 11-month period (June 2018 – June 2019) the express tracks were taken out of service in order to perform the rehabilitation work.
El Sol Contracting performed the work under an aggressive timetable utilizing multiple daily shifts, six to seven days per week, managing over 100 craft employees each day.
With only four months left of the original 11-month track shutdown, additional steel and concrete repairs worth $23M were added to the Contract with no additional time added to the original duration. El Sol increased efforts and successfully performed all the work during this high intensity period and finished on schedule.
