VN-17A – Upper Level Approaches:

The Project consists of the removal and replacement of the Staten Island and Brooklyn upper level approach decks and expansion joints; repair and strengthening of the upper level approaches superstructure; and installation of open road tolling gantries, equipment, and associated on-grade full depth concrete roadway reconstruction.

Scope of Work

Key Elements:

• Concrete deck demolition and replacement using cast-in-place concrete

• Cast-in-place concrete parapet and median barrier

• Structural lifting under dead and live load conditions

• Replacement of approach span bearings with isolation bearings

• Removal and replacement of the upper level anchorage deck superstructure (steel bents, bearings, stringers, diaphragms, decks and joints)

• Structural lifting and bearing replacement

• Replacement of concrete pier columns

• Replacement of concrete viaduct expansion bents

• Concrete substructure repairs

• Bridge drainage improvements

• Sign structure removal and replacement

• Replacement of bridge electrical and lighting systems

• Lead and asbestos abatement

• Multiple stage work zone traffic control

• New Open Road Cashless Tolling gantries and systems
