
Manhattan Central Business Tolling Program
Project Description
To install a system to toll vehicles entering Manhattan, south of 61st Street. The purpose of this project is two-fold. Firstly, improving the air quality, economic efficiency and transit productivity by reducing congestion and enhancing mobility. Secondly, to collect net revenue sufficient to generate $ 15 billion in bonding capacity to fund the MTA Capital budget.
The Project mainly consists of:
Design of overhead digital technology that will provide license plate recognition and image-based vehicle detection and classification without the need for in-ground sensors.
Design and installation of low-profile tolling clusters that leverage the existing infrastructure to blend into the landscape.
