Deck Replacement For 3 Bridges
Project Description
This Design-Build project consists of complete deck, bearing and pedestal replacements at all three vehicular bridges over busy interstate highways and all new piers/abutments and fascia stringers at one of the bridges, Lefferts Blvd. over Belt Parkway. The bridge reconstruction and deck replacement operations at each location were governed by contractually compressed timelines. As a result, Accelerated Bridge Construction methods were utilized for concrete deck replacement. Pre-cast concrete deck panels were lifted into place and structurally joined together using fast curing Ultra High Performance Concrete.
During this design-build project, tight time constraints for design and aggressive construction schedules for each of the bridge locations were required to address the high premium on durations of actual traffic closures. The close collaboration and integration between the designer and El Sol Contracting translated to improved construction efficiency on a safer job site, reduced impacts to the traffic and public, and kept construction on schedule.

Removal and replacement of reinforced concrete bridge decks using pre-cast concrete deck panels (65,000sf)
Replacement of reinforced concrete substructure columns, abutments and piers
New and retrofit structural steel erection
Replacement of electrical and bridge and underdeck lighting systems
